John Cooper reflects on his first four months as Chief Executive Officer

On March 24th, 2022, John Cooper was hired as PTW Energy Services’ Chief Executive Officer, bringing with him over 30 years of comprehensive leadership and strategy experience in the energy, energy services, waste and environmental sectors. Today, he reflects on his first four months in his new position.

“I am extremely humbled and honoured to have been selected as PTW’s Chief Executive Officer”, says John. “PTW has more than 2,500 employees with some having been with this organization since its inception and it is not hard to see why that is”.

John’s first perceptions of the Company is that:

1) PTW has very good brand recognition as the Company has been in each of its respective markets for 25 to 30 years, 2) we have best-in-class safety results and culture, and 3) we are one of the more respected industrial service companies with a unique service offering that spans electrical & instrumentation (E&I) maintenance and construction, steel fabrication, pressure safety valve (PSV) and automation with an enviable North American footprint.

“I have been very impressed by our diverse range of complimentary services in E&I maintenance, construction and fabrication, and we will continue to work hard to further develop an already established brand into the #1 safety and service provider for Canada and the U.S. in each of our businesses’ respective areas”.

John mentioned some of his personal highlights from his first days including meeting with employees, visiting branch locations and connecting with our customers. “Watching teams succeed is what I love” comments John. “We have four business units, being Canada Branch, Canada Construction, Canada Structures and US Branch and Construction and I get the biggest gratification out of watching them succeed and win”. “My job as CEO, apart from increasing our shareholder’s return on investment, is being present and coaching leaders in developing actionable plans so that they can follow-up and follow-through on their commitments to customers”.

John W. Cooper has over 30 years of leadership experience and has served in various senior positions including as Chief Executive Officer of Tervita Corporation; President and Chief Executive Officer of ClearStream Energy Services Inc.; Chief Operating Officer of Savanna Energy Services Corp.; President and Chief Executive Officer at EnerMAX Services Inc.; and President of Superior Propane Inc.
