Modular Laboratory Building
Kearl Lake, Alberta, Canada
Project Overview
PTW was contracted by a leading engineering firm to provide the complete installation package of the Laboratory Modular Building for the Kearl Oil Sands Project. The installation scope consisted of packaging five modules in PTW’s Calgary modular yard, disassembling them, shipping the modules to Kearl Lake, and the final reassembly and testing of the required systems on site. The project was executed within an aggressive eight month time frame, from conception, engineering and drafting to construction completion.
Using 3D modelling technology, the PTW team was able to combine in-house structural design drawings with third party mechanical drawings to ensure there were no conflicts between the plans.
In addition to managing the architectural and mechanical trades and performing the electrical scope, PTW designed the laboratory layout and managed the supply and installation of all the laboratory equipment, including: laboratory modular casework, stainless steel and epoxy resin work surfaces, sinks with mixing faucets and pure water faucets, vent arms, hydrocarbon dump sinks, flammable storage cupboards and other associated laboratory service fixtures. PTW also fabricated and installed resilient vinyl flooring, hygienic resilient wall protection complete with heat welded seams, as well as the loading dock equipment scissor lift and barrier free handicap lift.
